Ken Akamitsu, not the best track record in my book but a favourite of many others, his Love Hina and negima shows are hugely popular in manga form. But his animes don’t quite get the same level of love.
And here we have another, “Always my Santa” thankfully this is only 1 disc so it’s short.
We open on a monolog from a grumpy young man (not a highschool kid I might add) it’s Christmas in Japan, and he tells us he hates all things about the joyous holiday season, he was born on Christmas eve and his parents named him “Santa” a cruel joke in his eyes.
So while on the street a very bouncy noisy young girl asks openly “will you spend the night with me” not the best question ot ask (loudly) in a public place. EVERYBODY turns around to see the answer to this most precocious of girls’ question. And then Mr Santa is punched for being a pervert by the very girl who asked him.
If you’re still reading this you know by this point I’m not going to like this anime.
He walks away and she pursues him, saying she is the real Santa and will make him happy and understand the joys of Christmas, for the next few sketches this involves dropping things on his head and dragging him about.
I can guess where it’s going form there Ms Santa will make Mr Santa happy and love Christmas once again and fall madly in love with her through sheer force of will, many comedy sketches, misunderstandings and beatings.
I can only guess as I gave up at that point.

To be fair I wont score it as I didn’t watch it all, the first 5 minutes was bad enough but for some inexplicable reason Akamitsu has his following of fans. This quickly affirms I’m not one of them. "
