Packaging
The layout for the cover and inside cover remain roughly the same as with the first volume, one strange thing to note, is Akabane being on the cover of this second volume as he’s not actually in it.

Soundtrack
The Usual 5.1 for ADV’s English dub and a 2.0 mix for those preferring the show in its original language of Japanese.

Episode Contents (This part may contain Spoliers)
It’s been a good while since the first volume was released, fortunately get backers isn’t the most taxing of scenario’s so picking up this second volume nearly 5 months after its release still fees as casual sitting down to review than the most frequent of my favourite shows.

While a lot happens in the episodes not a lot actually happens if you get my meaning? This 5 episode volume is comprised of only two stories spread over the disc. The Get Backers have to get back a Stradivarius from the mafia in one of the stories and in the other Van Gouge’s 13th Sunflower painting is stolen, and is in need of retrieval from the mysterious hooded Clayman. The premises of the episodes are that simple, it’s amzing how such simple missions can then be stretched out over numbers of episodes without suffering from a slow down of pacing.

That’s because Get Backers is deceptively deep, Introducing, Threadmaster Kazuki and Beastmaster Shido, both former “Four Kings” VOLTS members and ex-residents of the Limitless Fortress, both as their names suggest loaded with more awesome powers to pitch against Ban and Ginji. Then you have who you would think would be the incidentals to the episodes, Madoko the blind violinist missing her Stradivarius developed a relationship with Shido, and the elderly Butler who works for the mafia is in fact a blade-wielding maniac.

Beastmaster Shido is the one hired to protect the violin from being “got back”. Holding a grudge against Midou for stealing away Ginji from the VOLTS gang is just one instance where the characters are decidedly complex and very quickly and thoroughly fleshed out trough the episodes.

Ai Says
" Get Backers is a “hard” anime, for want of a better word, it’s the venom each of the characters has, especially when listening to the Japanese actors who pull off the varied roles. Finally with this volume once again the Japanese display a knack for comedic timing evening the most unlikely of places. "
