“A visual Tour-de-force and a mesmerising two part climax to one of the greatest anime series of all time.” The packaging proudly exclaims, yeah… we’ll see…

A cardboard slipcover featuring one of the movies’ promotional images creates a busy cover with a number of cast members and events taking place. Plenty of text lets you know exactly what you are letting yourself in for and the back continues the detail listing everything you need to know, while the screen shots are a little deceptive being sourced from promo images.
This slip cover then houses a fold out cardboard digipack, sporting the same front cover the back still lists everything but has different screenshots. Folding out there is plenty of artwork from each of the movies used as the backgrounds for the three discs as well as a place for an insert (which was not provided here). The only downside I can find is that these cardboard digipacks are not the most sturdy of things and that has to be pointed out as the biggest downside as really; this is a rather neat little shiny package and well presented for the price.

Just to point out; all the screenshots below are from the final movie, End Of Evangelion.

TV series > Movies > TV series Directors Cuts > TV series collection > TV Platinum > and now Movie collection, it appears UK anime fandom has come full-circle with the phenomenon that is Evangelion, either that or I’m getting a real sense of deja-vu?
Having already reviewed both these movies on their individual releases, you can get a more detailed view of what the contents of these two movies are like by reading here.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death And Rebirth
Neon Genesis Evangelion: End Of Evangelion
Death and Rebirth plays out much like a giant re-cap for the TV series, there are plenty of new monologues and montages of images re-accounting what’s been going on, yet all that – as a movie – plays to set up the real meat; End Of Evangelion… Expect to see third impact actually happen, the brillant set-piece fight between Eva unit 2 and the white winged mass production Eva’s, Nerv getting trounced by SEELE, Shinji, going nuts, Asuka having an epiphany, and then while you’re reeling from all that epic-ness expect to be confused… (again)
Replete with all the menus extras, audio options and full contents what this collection does is house both those movies; all dolled up in shiny new packaging and drop the price somewhat to a little over what you would have paid for just one in the past. I hate to use the word again, but this must be the “definitive” way to go to cap-off your Evangelion experience.

"
Whether cash in or not? Trying to catch the newly re-forming wave of Evangelion popularity. This version of the two movies non-the-less would be the way to go for those that are only just catching that new wave. Or those who for some reason or another still don’t own them yet. "
